Focus
Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.
Read
Genesis 1:1-5 (NRSV)
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Reflect
How can one describe God? How does one express the mystery of God? God is creative. God is light. God is energy. God is love. God has these attributes, yet God is so much more. We can only stand in awe when we try to imagine all of God. We cannot even begin to understand God. We only have glimpses of who God is. We cannot take in all of God, so God takes us into God’s self.
We cannot put God into a box. Every time I think I have an understanding of God, God does something that surprises me. A god that I could understand is not our God.
God spoke all that there is into being. How can we begin to imagine such power? How can we understand God at all? All we can do is accept that God is the great mystery. God placed the earth at just the right distance from the sun. God created everything here on earth that we need for life.
When I try to understand the vastness of God (which I never will), I realize that God can help me to handle any problem I encounter. All my problems are small compared to the vastness of God.
Pray
O God, I stand in awe before your magnificence. You are the great mystery, and I am humbled that you love me as you do. Please help me to lead a life worthy of your love. Amen.
Go with God.
