Psalms 146:1-8 (NRSV)
Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD, O my soul!
I will praise the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God all my life long.
Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortals, in whom there is no help.
When their breath departs, they return to the earth;
on that very day their plans perish.
Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD their God,
who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith forever;
who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets the prisoners free;
the LORD opens the eyes of the blind.
The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down;
the LORD loves the righteous.
Reflect
What beautiful words of praise! Sadly, with our constantly busy lives, we don’t always take the time to meditate on the wonders of God or how God has blessed us. With so many negative words and actions in our politics and the increasing number of tragic deeds being reported on the news, it can be easy to focus on what is wrong with the world. So let us take the time each day to calm our minds and to focus on the wonders of God and God’s goodness. Many times we can look back at our lives and see how God was helping us every step of the way, even though we didn’t realize it at the time.
We need to share the experiences of God working in our lives with our children and grandchildren. These true life examples will stick in their minds and comfort them later in life. I remember a few, how about you?
Pray
Dear Lord, thank you for your many blessings and for your unending love. Help us today to be examples of your love and to share how you have worked in our lives. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
Go with God.
