Matthew 8:14-17 (NRSV)
When Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever; he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him. That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were sick. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah, “He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
Reflect
The Old Testament contains many examples that allow us to see how great and mighty God is. Through the Gospel accounts of Jesus, we find an image of a living God who performed miracles in everyday situations. Jesus healed those who were sick, blind, and lame. Jesus healed people who society had cast out and thrown away.
Jesus’ example helps us to understand that God values everyone, even those who are considered to be the outcasts of society. We serve a God who is willing to spend time with and heal the “least of these.” Our God is the God of love and kindness. We serve God by serving those who are in need.
Pray
God, thank you for the amazing example that you sent us in the form of Jesus. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you every day. Guide us on our walk with you. Amen.
Go with God.
