Focus
Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.

Job 36:24-33 (NRSV)
“Remember to extol his work,
of which mortals have sung.
All people have looked on it;
everyone watches it from far away.
Surely God is great, and we do not know him;
the number of his years is unsearchable.
For he draws up the drops of water;
he distills his mist in rain,
which the skies pour down
and drop upon mortals abundantly.
Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds,
the thunderings of his pavilion?
See, he scatters his lightning around him
and covers the roots of the sea.
For by these he governs peoples;
he gives food in abundance.
He covers his hands with the lightning,
and commands it to strike the mark.
Its crashing tells about him;
he is jealous with anger against iniquity.
Reflect
The scripture today shares Elihu’s words to Job. Elihu was one of Job’s friends, but not one of the three who had come to comfort Job at the beginning of the book. Elihu arrived later and gave his response to Job. In this chapter, he highlighted God’s greatness. He wanted Job to quit looking at his situation through a human lens and start looking at the wonders of God.
So many times, we want to define God by human standards. We put so many limits on what God can do when we think of God this way. The lake at Crystal Springs Camp is one of my favorite places to reflect on God’s greatness. Observing God’s creation never fails to “put me in my place.” It reminds me that I am not in charge (thank goodness)! While it is not easy to relinquish control and let God do things beyond our understanding, we must strive for the faith that will allow us to do just that.
Pray
God, you are amazing! You are beyond our understanding! Help us to trust you to be in control of every situation. Help us not to put limits on your greatness. We praise you and thank you for all your mighty wonders! Thanks be to God! Amen.
Go with God.
