Focus
As you quiet yourself for this brief time, be willing to be open to God, however that may take place.
Read
Psalm 119:105-112 (NRSV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
to observe your righteous ordinances.
I am severely afflicted;
give me life, O LORD, according to your word.
Accept my offerings of praise, O LORD,
and teach me your ordinances.
I hold my life in my hand continually,
but I do not forget your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but I do not stray from your precepts.
Your decrees are my heritage forever;
they are the joy of my heart.
I incline my heart to perform your statutes
forever, to the end.
Reflect
My mom has always said that I floated through life. She has been amazed at how “luckily” my path has unfolded. She was shocked each time doors opened at the right time or when what looked like a haphazard choice ended up being the perfect direction to lead to the next step. What she has always called luck, I call the Holy Spirit. I pray daily that God will guide my footsteps, that I will follow the path God has designed for me, and that God’s will be done through my hands. While life has not been perfect, it has turned out pretty good so far—not by my hands, but by seeking God’s will.
I have found that it is when I stray from God’s word and calling that life starts to get sticky. When I allow life to get in the way of spending time with God, things begin to get out of hand. When I stop taking time to study God’s precepts, difficulties start sneaking into my life. When the stresses of life start to overwhelm, that is when I feel God calling me back to God’s word and God’s path. It is when I live into the glory of God, and allow God’s word to be the light to guide my feet that joy restores my heart.
Pray
Holy God, Guide my steps today. May your Word direct the path that I follow, may it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. May I live into the glory that you have prepared for me—one step at a time. Amen
Go with God.
