Romans 1:18-25 (NRSV)
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse; for though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools; and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
Reflect
I am blessed to live in the middle of mountains. The beautiful blue-gray hills off in the distance shout of God’s glory. The green trees that surround my house are merely a backdrop to the purple-red sunrises that creep over the majestic mountains in the mornings as I drive the kids to school, reminding me of God’s love and amazing creative powers. Through the winds of these mountains, God whispers words of comfort and peace in times of turmoil and strife. Fresh mountain air renews my spirit and cleanses my soul like nothing else. The sunlight hitting my face and the beauty of God’s creation gives me strength that comes from God alone.
Today’s scripture reminds us that all of this creation was given to us by God, created for us by God’s loving hand. Creation is one of the many ways that God reveals God’s eternal power and divine nature to us. It is God calling us back, reaching out to us, and assuring us of God’s majesty.
Pray
Creator God, shine your spirit through the landscape around us. May the beauty of your creation speak peace to our hearts this day. May we be fortified through your majestic gift of the world around us. May your glory shine forth in the creation, which was formed by your mighty hands. With each breath of air that we draw, may we be reminded of your eternal power. Amen.
Go with God.
