Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.

Job 38:22-30 (NRSV)
“Have you entered the storehouses of the snow,
or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,
which I have reserved for the time of trouble,
for the day of battle and war?
What is the way to the place where the light is distributed,
or where the east wind is scattered upon the earth?
“Who has cut a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a way for the thunderbolt,
to bring rain on a land where no one lives,
on the desert, which is empty of human life,
to satisfy the waste and desolate land,
and to make the ground put forth grass?
“Has the rain a father,
or who has begotten the drops of dew?
From whose womb did the ice come forth,
and who has given birth to the hoarfrost of heaven?
The waters become hard like stone,
and the face of the deep is frozen.
Reflect
No, God, I haven’t. I’m sorry. Instead I’ve gotten a too big for my britches lately. I’ve been worrying about and planning how I can do this, and how I can get that done. I have all kinds of ideas about how to fix the world. I’m in control, I think.
Truth be told, some days I figure that if folks just lived my way, everything would be much better. I pretty much have it all figured out, I sometimes think. I mean really, look at those people. If they’d just do what I want them to do, then the world would be better for everybody! I just know I’m right when I know I’m right!
But God, now I realize that maybe I don’t know everything. You’re right; I’ve not been to the storehouses for the snow and hail. I can’t find the place from which light is distributed. I’ve never fathered rain, or birthed ice. I’m not you.
Only you are you. You are the one who does all that. So the next time we act like Job and his friends, like we’re the ones who have or need all the answers, remind us again. You are God–not us.
Pray
God of Creation, we repent of our pride and arrogance. It leads us to think we are gods. We are not. You are and we bow ourselves to you because no other deserves it. Remind us daily of your majesty. You are God. Amen.”
Go with God.
