Focus
Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.

1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11 (NRSV)
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you.
…
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.
Reflect
Growing up in the church, I often heard people say, “God will never give you more than you can handle.” The reality is that God doesn’t give us any of the world’s problems. Instead, God is figuratively “standing” with us, sharing with us, and supporting us when we face the problems and challenges of the world.
Just because we have a deep faith and are Christians does not mean our lives will be exempt from the issues, problems, and temptations of the world. In fact, because of our faith relationship, we are often challenged more, which gives us a small understanding of what Jesus faced during his time on earth.
We are not to get too worried or wrapped up in these worldly challenges. Just like Jesus remained faithful to God during his trials and tribulations, we are called to do the same. When we remain faithful, God will reward us. One day, when we are called to our eternal home, all our brokenness from this world will be restored and glory will be given.
Pray
Loving God, walk with me each step of my life’s journey. When temptations confront me, help me to face them, knowing that you are at my side. Amen.
Go with God.
