Focus
Experience silence in the midst of your busy day. Take some time to relax into a time to be with God.
Read
Psalm 123 (NRSV)
To you I lift up my eyes,
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
As the eyes of servants
look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maid
to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the LORD our God,
until he has mercy upon us.
Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us,
for we have had more than enough of contempt.
Our soul has had more than its fill
of the scorn of those who are at ease,
of the contempt of the proud.
Reflect
Tomorrow morning when you will wake up, I hope you will join me in heading to the voting booth as the people of the United States elect new president. The forty-fifth President of the United States of America will be decided by the people. These are uncertain times, no matter which political party you support. Change will happen, and the direction of that change will be set tomorrow at the poles. We each get to be a part of that decision, a part of that change. We each get to make a choice and vote.
As Christians, we are called to look at the world through a specific lens, through the viewpoint of Christ Jesus. We are to make decisions based on what Jesus would have us to do. When we step into the voting booth tomorrow, we must vote for what we believe. We must vote for the candidate whom we feel is most in line with what Christ calls us to be. We must turn our eyes upon God alone to help us make our decision and trust in God’s mercy. As Christians we are called to stand firm in our faith, not just at church, not just in prayer, not just in our families, but in all areas of our lives, including the voting booth. Whichever way God leads you, vote; and vote as Christ calls you.
Pray
God of the heavens, open our eyes to your desires. Turn our hearts to your ways. Guide our hands and our minds to focus on your kingdom. Give us peace in the knowledge of your mercy and comfort in your grace. Amen.
Go with God.
