Focus
Relax and clear your head. Listen for the voice of God. What is God saying to you today?
Read
Psalm 142 (NRSV)
With my voice I cry to the LORD;
with my voice I make supplication to the LORD.
I pour out my complaint before him;
I tell my trouble before him.
When my spirit is faint,
you know my way.
In the path where I walk
they have hidden a trap for me.
Look on my right hand and see—
there is no one who takes notice of me;
no refuge remains to me;
no one cares for me.
I cry to you, O LORD;
I say, “You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living.”
Give heed to my cry,
for I am brought very low.
Save me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
7 Bring me out of prison,
so that I may give thanks to your name.
The righteous will surround me,
for you will deal bountifully with me.
Reflect
We don’t like to admit that sometimes we are, or have been, depressed—just down and out. At a very low point in my life, when I felt like giving up, someone told me that God had a purpose and plan for my life and that I should never give up. This person also told me that if I would turn my life over to God, I would find more peace and contentment than I had ever known. It was something new to me. I knew that whatever God did with my life was much better than anything I could do. So, I turned my life over to God. Today, I am a pastor.
In Psalm 142, David was depressed and felt all alone as he hid in a cave from Saul. But, he poured his heart out to God. David knew that God was his refuge and was the only one who could help him. At our low points, we should also cry out to God. Allow God to take the pieces of your life and weave them into something beautiful.
Pray
Dear God, sometimes we have no understanding of how much you want to bless us. But, we thank you that for the plans you have for each of our lives. Please give us guidance for the steps that we need to take in our lives. We praise you for your love, which is beyond anything that we can imagine. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Go with God.
