As you quiet yourself for this brief time, be willing to be open to God in whatever way that may take place.

Psalm 84:8-12 (NRSV)
O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer;
give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
Behold our shield, O God;
look on the face of your anointed.
For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than live in the tents of wickedness.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
he bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does the LORD withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
O LORD of hosts,
happy is everyone who trusts in you.
Reflect
My grandfather, Milton (Chot) Clapp, was a share cropper with a 4rd grade education. When he was 41 years old, God called him to ministry. My grandfather couldn’t believe that God was calling him to be a pastor, as he had little education and could not read or write. But, convinced of his calling, he surrendered to the ministry. A relative, who was a teacher, taught him to read and write. My grandfather did his part, and God granted him great wisdom and understanding of the Bible.
God has plans for our lives. Maybe there is something you feel that God wants you to do, and you can’t shake the feeling. It could be a certain occupation. Or, it might be using your gifts in the church in a specific way such as singing, preparing the bulletin, teaching Sunday school, becoming a youth leader, joining the visitation committee, going to college for Christian education, or surrendering to the ordained ministry. These are just a few examples. Today’s scripture is a reminder that God will give us the means to do what God is calling us to do. We just need to step out in faith.
Pray
Dear God, thank you for helping us to accomplish more than we ever could on our own. We praise you that you supply our needs and don’t withhold any good thing, if we will only trust you. Thank you for loving us enough that you are a light for our paths, and extend to us your loving grace. Without you we are nothing. Amen.
Go with God.
