Relax and listen. Consciously prepare to hear God’s Word. Clear your mind of the worries and tasks that lie before you. Open your heart and allow it to refresh.

Psalm 14 (NRSV)
Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;
there is no one who does good.
The LORD looks down from heaven on humankind
to see if there are any who are wise,
who seek after God.
They have all gone astray, they are all alike perverse;
there is no one who does good,
no, not one.
Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not call upon the LORD?
There they shall be in great terror,
for God is with the company of the righteous.
You would confound the plans of the poor,
but the LORD is their refuge.
O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion!
When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people,
Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.
Reflect
Scripture is clear: Only “fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.’” Much like the days of David, we see that our world is “corrupt and abominable;” yet God looks for those who still seek the Lord’s teachings, mercy, and grace. Righteous people do still exist; never doubt this, my friends.
The clerk at the store, the teacher in front of your child’s class, the next door neighbor, and the police officer writing you a ticket can all be ones who are righteous in God’s sight. God is with those who seek to do good, keeping company with them.
In a world that is often full of “evil doers” and who seek to tear God’s name asunder, Psalm 14 reminds us that God continues to seek those who have a pure heart and want to exalt God’s name. Deliverance is coming for those who stand with the Lord, and we will all rejoice!
Pray
Dear God, help us to seek you in those who are wise and righteous companions here on earth. Keep our minds and hearts in the company of those who seek to do good for you and your kingdom. Amen.
Go with God.
