Psalm 1 (NRSV)
Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of scoffers;
but their delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.
The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Reflect
It seems no matter where we are, there are always two roads we can choose to travel. North or south, right or left, backward or forward! The two choices usually either take us toward God’s will or away from it.
We must each make the crucial decision of which road to travel. The psalmist tell us that God watches over the righteous, but those who are wicked will perish. Even if we have taken roads that led us away from God, there is still hope! To get on the road that leads to life, we must repent and follow Jesus Christ. This is the good news of the gospel—and what good news it is!
Pray
Almighty God, help us to seek your guidance as we travel the roads of life, trusting in your will. Forgive us when we make the wrong choices. It is in Christ’s name that we pray. Amen.
Go with God.
