Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.
Read
Psalm 127 (NRSV)
Unless the LORD builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the LORD guards the city,
the guard keeps watch in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives sleep to his beloved.
Sons are indeed a heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the sons of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has
his quiver full of them.
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Reflect
When reading this scripture, I was reminded that the Lord is present at every moment of our lives. Whether it be while eating cereal, watching the news, or sitting in a classroom, God is with us, but we may not recognize God’s presence. Our lives should abundantly reflect the Lord’s presence.
This psalm also reminds me that God will always provide. God may not provide everything you think you “need,” but human beings sometimes have difficulty differentiating between needs and wants. You might think you “need” the newest electronic gadget, but that is a want rather than a need. God provides for our needs, and sometimes for our wants.
To sum it up, God will provide for you, day and night, and we should always seek God’s presence in every aspect of our lives.
Pray
Lord, I pray that I can learn to bring you into every aspect of my life. I pray that I can learn to appreciate everything that you have given me. Amen.
Go with God.
