Focus
Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.

1 Corinthians 2:12-16 (NRSV)
Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit.
The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Reflect
Yesterday’s eVotion considered the ideas God gives us through the Spirit. Sometimes we hem and haw about following them. Maybe we were excited when we woke up in the morning, but by the time we’ve had an opportunity to think about the idea….it seems a little wacky. We apply our human reasoning to God’s plan for the world, and the idea just doesn’t make any sense. We have to trust that the Spirit is interceding for us, giving us wisdom the world may not recognize.
My family has been using an app called Duolingo to study different languages. The program gives us reminders and chides us when we don’t complete our targeted study per day. While Duolingo teaches many, many languages (including Klingon from Star Trek), it can’t teach us the language of the Spirit. But spiritual practices, such as taking time out for eVotions, can help us to develop our interpretive skills so that we might understand the messages God gives us.
Pray
God, we thank you for your Spirit, which intercedes and interprets for us. Forgive us for trying to get in the way of spiritual things when we get stuck in the ways of the world. Help us to trust your Spirit that we may be free to speak your language and hear it spoken to us on the breeze. Amen.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord!
