Psalm 104:24-34, 35b (NRSV)
O LORD, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
creeping things innumerable are there,
living things both small and great.
There go the ships,
and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.
These all look to you
to give them their food in due season;
when you give to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die
and return to their dust.
When you send forth your spirit, they are created;
and you renew the face of the ground.
May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD rejoice in his works—
who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke.
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the LORD.
…
Bless the LORD, O my soul.
Praise the LORD!
Reflect
I love Saturdays. I love the opportunity to spend the day with my family. Whether it is watching my daughter play soccer, going shopping, doing yard work, or simply sitting on my back porch, I enjoy the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the beauty that is around me every day.
I often take for granted the miracle of creation that is unfolding around me. I overlook the obvious care that was taken in creating the world in which we live. When I see a bee and I think about the grand function that it fulfills in making sure plants are pollinated so they can provide oxygen, I am in awe of the grandness of God’s design.
In those moments, I am reminded that every living creature has a part to play in God’s plan. Thankfully, the bees don’t stop living out God’s plan and neither should we. Spend this day rejoicing in God’s works and being thankful that you are a part of them.
Pray
Creator God, we cannot praise you enough for the beauty around us. We cannot praise you enough for the miraculous nature of creation. Help us to care for your creation as we strive to be all that you made us to be. Amen.
