Psalm 150 (NRSV)
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty firmament![a]
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his surpassing greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
Reflect
Music fills my earliest memories of Sunday morning worship. My mother sang in the choir at church, and I was given strict orders to behave until she could join. I loved the music. I sat alone and tried to find the correct page for the hymn that was being sung. I quickly learned to navigate the multiverse page so that I, too, could make a joyful noise.
The definition of praise is to worship, commend, or give honor to. Praising God with voice and instruments, the many instruments the psalmist mentions, creates a truly majestic sound. God is so worthy of praise! Use our musical talents to return praise pleases God. Sometimes mere words cannot express love for God like a song. How are you willing to praise God for the breath you have?
Pray
God, we praise you for how great you are. Accept the music of our hearts, forgive us, and dwell in our praise. Praise the Lord! Amen.
Go with God.
