Hebrews 4:14-16 (NRSV)
Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Reflect
The Book of Hebrews was written to the people of the early Christian church as the very foundations of their faith were being formed. The writer of Hebrews describes Jesus as our High Priest who has ready access to God. The writer emphasizes Jesus’ human nature, showing how Jesus can sympathize with our weaknesses. Jesus experienced human life with all of its difficulties and he was tested in every respect. Yet, he was without sin.
Because of Jesus, we know that our God is not distant or uninvolved. We can approach God with confidence, even with boldness, knowing that we will receive mercy and grace in our time of need. We can count on God’s promises. Let’s accept all that God so willingly offers us.
Pray
Lord, I come to you with boldness, knowing that you offer me your mercy and grace. Come into my life today and shape my thoughts and intentions. I offer myself as your servant, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Go with God.
