Read
Luke 6:43-45 (NRSV)
“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit; for each tree is known by its own fruit. Figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks.”
Reflect
I love oranges! They are so wonderfully juicy and delicious. However, every now and then an orange tree will start to rot from the inside. When it does, it can’t produce good fruit. It will continue to produce fruit for a while, but the more it decays, the less fruit it will have. Just like orange trees, it is easy to let something get in our minds that is malicious and starts to rot our souls. When that happens, we no longer produce the kind of fruit that is pleasing to God.
It is hard to fight the bad in this world. Temptation is around every corner, but with God’s help we can fight it. God wants to be evident in every part of our lives. It is very important to turn to God in times of struggle to help us resist evil.
Pray
Lord I pray that you help us not to give into temptation and the evils of this world. I know how huge a struggle it can be and that it is only with your help that we can turn our backs on temptation. Thank you so much for loving us and helping us through this struggle. In your name I pray. Amen.
Go with God.
