1 Corinthians 2:6-10 (NRSV)
Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish. But we speak God’s wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the human heart conceived,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—
these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
Reflect
As I write this, I am in a plane. Just this morning, I watched the sunrise from 29,000 feet in the air. Breathless does not touch the surface of my reaction. Mesmerized does not do my stunned emotions justice. The purity of the smooth colors comforted my sleep-deprived gaze. Shades of orange and yellow melted across the white, puffy horizon. From the corners of my mind came words from “What a Wonderful World.” “I see skies of blue, clouds of white, the brightness of day, the coolness of night. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.”
Imagination is a great and wonderful thing, giving luster and pizazz to our life, but even our vast imagination cannot encapsulate the future that God has for God’s followers. I do not have the mental capacity to think up a sunrise. God beautifully does. God holds the power to create sunrises, and with that same power, has planned my future and destiny.
Pray
Dear Lord, sometimes I want to believe that I know what my future holds. Please help me to understand that I cannot fathom what you have prepared for your followers. Give me the peace of mind to trust in your preparations. Thank you for your unfailing love. Amen.
Go with God.
