David Greene Wiseman, Jr., 97, better known as “D.G.,” of the Harmony community near Winchester in Franklin County, Tennessee, died July 22, 2022. He was a member of the Harmony Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Murfreesboro Presbytery) for 83 years. He served faithfully as a teacher, a deacon, and, for 41 years, as an elder. D.G. had a great love of books and read extensively. He was a charter member of the Franklin County Historical Society and helped to establish The Old Jail Museum in Winchester.

D.G. was born on December 11, 1924, in a log house in the Wiseman Hollow on the Elk River in the Harmony community to David G. Wiseman, Sr. and Johnie Edwards Wiseman. He graduated from the Harmony Public School in 1939, and from Central High School in Winchester in 1943. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in February 1944 and served in the 507th Bomb Squadron of the 333rd Bomb Group where he was trained as a bombardment radar mechanic for B-29 Superfortresses. He was honorably discharged in March 1946. Upon returning to Franklin County, he enrolled at the University of the South in Sewanee. He graduated in 1950 with a B.A. in English Literature and was a member of the Order of the Gown. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Lorena Glasner and they made their home in Harmony.

In 1953, he began work at the Arnold Engineering and Development Center where he calibrated and tested instrumentation used in the testing of airplane and rocket models. He retired in February 1988, as manager of the Electrical and Electronics Section of the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory. Following his retirement, he farmed.
