The Reverend Doctor Theodis Acklin, moderator of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America, in a communication dated May 17, 2020, urged churches to exercise caution before re-opening their facilities for public worship despite the direction of state and federal officials to “re-open for business.”
“Worship is essential to me,” said Dr. Acklin, “but equally as important is the health, the safety, and the welfare of the constituents of the CPCA. Therefore, I strongly urge church sessions and leaders to exercise caution in returning to regular worship services in their church buildings. Continue to practice the safety measures advised by the CDC and like entities.”
Dr. Acklin advised consulting the 48 Questions before Re-Opening the Church written by Ken Braddy, Director of Sunday School for Lifeway Christian Resources.
