The Rev. Charles Arthur Hendershot, 94, a member of Red River Presbytery, died November 12, 2019. He survived his wife, Dorothy, by less than two months.
Charles Arthur was born to Charles Philo and Janie Lucille Yetsey Hendershot on July 21, 1925, and educated in the public schools of Macomb, Oklahoma. As a high school freshman in 1939, Charles Arthur joined the Mars Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Macomb. He came under the care of Cherokee Presbytery in 1941.
Charles entered Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee, in 1946, and graduated in 1949. Shortly after graduation, he was ordained by Cherokee Presbytery. He then continued to the Cumberland Presbyterian Theological Seminary, also in McKenzie, graduating in 1952.
Charles served in Cherokee, White River, McAdow, Dallas, North Central Texas, and Red River Presbyteries. His pastorates included Kelso and Sewanee in Tennessee, Harrison in Arkansas, Concord, Sandy Springs, and Newberry in Texas, and, for over twenty years each, Camp Ground and Whitney in Texas.
Charles married Dorothy on December 27, 1945. She was born March 10, 1924, and died September 24, 2019. Their children include Sharon Lynn, John Thomas, and Carol Ann.
Camp Ground Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Poetry, Texas, where Charles served for around twenty years.
