In August 1996, Cayce Lynn McDaniel had just started her freshman year at Milan, Tennessee, High School. On August 16, 1996, she went to a back-to-school party at Double Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church (West Tennessee Presbytery) just outside of Milan. A family friend gave her a ride home a little after midnight and waited until Cayce entered the house. Cayce was never seen again.
Despite vigorous investigation by police and the FBI in the late-1990s, clues dried up and the case went cold. Milan police never abandoned the investigation, however. On Tuesday, October 22, 2019, Gibson County District Attorney Gary Brown announced that long-time suspect Finis “Pete” Ewin Hill III, 67, has been indicted for McDaniels’ alleged rape and murder. The evidence which led to Hill’s indictment has yet to be revealed.
