Bobby Lamontte Ramsey, Sr., 88, of Spring Hill, Tennessee, died Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Born February 18, 1931 in Ooltewah, Tennessee, Bobby served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church (although which congregation has yet to be clarified). Bobby enjoyed raising cattle while working as a maintenance welder for Monsanto Chemical Company, retiring at the age of 55. After retirement, he continued farming.
He played professional baseball in the old C and D leagues for the Fond du Lac Panthers (1949-50) in the Wisconsin State League, the Independence Yankees (1950) in the Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri League, and, after a stint in the Air Force, the Grand Forks Chiefs (1955) in the Northern League. As a Chief he was on the same team as hall-of-fame member Johnny Hopp. All teams were part of New York Yankees organization. In addition to baseball, he also played softball and basketball and participated in the Senior Olympics where he received numerous awards.
