Bettye Jean Loggins McCaffrey Ellis, 91, of Dyer, Tennessee, died February 2, 2021. Bettye, a member of the Dyer Cumberland Presbyterian Church (West Tennessee Presbytery), was the 4th great niece of Rev. Samuel McAdow, one of the founders of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She served the Dyer congregation in many ways including Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Elder. Bettye was known for her children’s sermons for patriotic and church holidays. She served as the treasurer of Christian Endeavor until her death.
Bettye was born may 10, 1929, Reuben Wilson Loggins, Sr., and Grace Edwards Loggins in Gibson County, Tennessee. She married James Robert McCaffrey July 2, 1949, in the Yorkville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In January 1970 she went to work as the Yorkville Field Office Secretary for U.S. Congressman Ed Jones, a Cumberland Presbyterian. Eight years after J.R. passed, Bettye married Dr. John W. Ellis of Dyer, Tennessee March 7, 1982.
