Read
Psalm 71:1-4 (NRSV)
In you, O LORD, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me and save me.
Be to me a rock of refuge,
a strong fortress, to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
Reflect
“Be to me a rock of refuge” writes the psalmist. He recounts God’s protection and presence during all of the seasons of his life. From the cradle, through childhood, as a young adult, and into old age, the psalmist praises God’s faithful, steady presence—comparing it to a sturdy shelter carved into a rocky cliff.
When times are tough, God is there. Take a moment to reflect on the seasons of your life and God’s faithful presence. During what particularly vulnerable moment did you turned to God as your rock of refuge and your fortress? Give thanks to God for providing you refuge in your time of need.
Pray
Be to me a rock of refuge, Lord. I am grateful that I can run toward you and know that your door is always open. Amen.
Go with God.
