Hebrews 10:19-25 (NRSV)
Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Reflect
This passage makes reference to the Holy of Holies, which was the innermost area of the Temple. The people associated this area of the Temple with God’s presence. Before the exile and destruction of Solomon’s Temple, the Holy of Holies contained the Ark of the Covenant. Once a year a designated priest was allowed to enter the Holy of Holies to offer incense.
Jesus’ death removed the curtain that separated the Holy of Holies from the other parts of the Temple. Because of Jesus, all believers can be in God’s presence at any time. We can go to God with the sure knowledge that God will hear and answer us.
We are meant to come together to worship and to encourage one another in the faith. God intends for us to lift up and support one another. We must be careful not to neglect these privileges because they are our foundation.
Pray
God, let us come together in our struggles and build up one another in your name. Let us acknowledge your presence at all times. Help us to turn to brothers and sisters in the faith for support and encouragement, and to offer the same to others. Amen.
Go with God.
