Arkansas Presbytery met March 10-11, 2023, with Barren Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant, Arkansas. Rev. Alan Meinzer was pastor host. Rev. Nicholas Chambers was elected moderator and Rev. Tom Merchant vice moderator. The offering was dedicated to the Leo Smith Scholarship Fund. Reinstated Rev. John Eubanks from Ewing-Burrow Presbytery as a ministerial member. Transferred Rev. Robert T. “Toby” Davis to Red River Presbytery and Rev. Rev. Elizabeth Terrell and Rev. John Eubanks to Cornerstone Presbytery. Lila DeMoss was licensed to preach and presented a Certificate of Licensure. Request from W. Logan Dixon to be dropped from the roll was referred to the Committee on the Ministry. Licentiate Phillip Solomon dropped from the roll by his request. “Memorial from Arkansas Presbytery to the General Assembly” was presented and approved. Content of the memorial did not appear in the minutes. Commission to Determine the Status and Legal Intentions of the Sulphur Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church” reported successful communications with the congregation and that the congregation did not intend to leave the denomination despite having posted a “Sulphur Springs Community Church” sign. Commission reported Rev. Sungtae Hong installed as pastor of the Arkansas Loving Cumberland Presbyterian Church, December 4, 2022. Commission reported Rev. Randall D. Ludwig installed as pastor of Mountain Home Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church, January 8, 2023. Recommendations from the UNIFIED COMMITTEE ON THEOLOGY AND SOCIAL CONCERNS concerning the action of Synod of Great Rivers in forming the Presbytery for the Mid-South were declined. Approved the updated “Camp Peniel Handbook of Operation.” Property of the former Lockesburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Pine Bluff Cumberland Presbyterian Church are to be sold. Memorial Service was led by Elder Nancy Foot.

Matthew H. Gore is a British journalist, historian, popular culturist, archivist, and educator residing in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the immediate past-president of the Society of Tennessee Archivists and is best known for his book The History of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Kentucky to 1988 (2000). He has also published on a variety of topics as diverse as The Origin of Marvelman (a British superhero of the 1950s and 1960s), the relative scarcity of East German philatelics, and the biography of British pulp artist, Denis McLoughlin. He is employed by the Ministry Council of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at the Cumberland Presbyterian Center in Memphis, Tennessee, as editor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Magazine and as publications manager. He has been associated with both Western Kentucky University, which honored him with their James H. Poteet Award, and the University of Kentucky. He also serves as editor for all Boardman Books (Memphis, Tennessee) publications.
