What a place to be in life and faith, hard pressed to decide which is preferred – life or death. Paul helps us see a bit of his dilemma. It is not a crisis of faith, but rather a recognition of the blessings either way. I am amazed, even as I read the words: living is Christ, dying is gain. His love for the Philippians shines through as he sees that he needs to stay on this side of glory for their sake. Love for others can help us hold on through very difficult situations, even when we feel like it would be better to just give up or give in. Some of my most difficult days have been colored by some of the most beautiful expressions of love. A seemingly random text from a friend, a card, a silly surprise in the mail, someone pointing out a funny irony in life that makes me laugh, a phone call, a shared meal around a table sharing stories and giggles, are all simply beautiful expressions of love. Christ is in those beautiful expressions. Living really is Christ. Dying will be gain one day, but for now let’s try to hang in there with each other a while longer my friends!!
Pray
Almighty God,
Help us to always see Christ in the loving expressions around us. Thank you for the community of faith, the love that we share and the joy of being in fellowship with one another so that when we go through challenges, we have that connection to help us get through the storms of life. Thank you for friends and loved ones who pray with us and pray for us. Thank you for your Holy Spirit who helps us navigate through life. Help us embrace that living is Christ and dying is gain. Help us have that kind of faith and trust in you, today and every day. In Jesus’ Holy Name we pray! Amen
Go with God.
