Ed Hughes, MTS’ Director of Library Services, will be presenting a paper at the 2023 American Library Association Conference, June 22-27, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois. The title of his presentation is, “Extending Roaming to the Classroom.” Ed will focus on how librarians can connect with students and faculty if they are not coming into the library: “Even before the COVID pandemic, traffic in many academic libraries has been slowly decreasing. During the pandemic, many libraries shut their doors. Even after opening, traffic has been lower than pre-pandemic levels.”

To reestablish avenues of communication between students and faculty, Ed has been auditing classes. His conference presentation will report on the strengths and weaknesses of this effort, and attendees will come away with alternative models to engaging students and faculty.
