SYRIA AND TURKEY EARTHQUAKE
We have all seen the devastation caused by the Earthquake in Syria and Turkey. The Cumberland Presbyterian Church does not have missionaries or mission work in that part of the world. However, there are reputable organizations we can suggest you support if you feel inclined to help.
Samaritan’s Purse will soon deploy a team to Turkey and help facilitate aid. Soon to be ordained Edgar Straube (Grace Presbytery) is the chaplain at the Samaritan’s Purse central office. He assures us that all donations go in their entirety to the relief project https://www.samaritanspurse.org.
Church World Services is another organization we believe is reputable and has been used by CPs in the past https://cwsglobal.org. Others may feel the International Red Cross is a good fit for the donations they would like to give https://www.icrc.org/en.
We ask you to join us in this prayer:
Lord of hope and compassion, let your eyes fall upon the suffering people in Syria and Turkey. May your Holy Spirit bring comfort to the frightened and brokenhearted. May your Spirit inspire acts of kindness, compassion, and sacrifice to help those in need. May all we do bring glory to your son Jesus Christ. In Christ’s name, Amen.
