Salutation
1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have received a faith as equally honorable as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2 May grace and peace be yours in abundance in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
The Christian’s Call and Election
3 His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence. 4 Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust and may become participants of the divine nature. 5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with excellence, and excellence with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. 8 For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For anyone who lacks these things is blind, suffering from eye disease, forgetful of the cleansing of past sins. 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble. 11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.

One of my best high school memories was playing football. I played for the smallest school in the state of Kentucky that had a football team. Although we were small, we were one of the best teams in the state. We didn’t just put on the uniform and automatically win games. It started in January with weightlifting. Eventually, we would be running and working on conditioning. During the dog days of summer, we were on the practice field in full gear with the goal of winning a State Championship in December. Those Summer days were rough. Not everybody made it. The grind was just too much, but on Friday nights we were ready. What seemed hard during those hot summer days was second nature on those cool Fall nights. We didn’t just want to win. We were conditioned to win. That’s the way it is with us. We don’t just answer an alter call and leave for the mission field or start ministering in the church. It’s a growing process. We learn we grow and at times we hurt, but when it’s game time we are equipped to win. Our coach has not just been there to guide us. Our coach becomes part of us and he has already won the game. We just have to show up and let his glory shine.
Pray
Dear God, help us like to be intentional in our spiritual preparation knowing that we have already won. Amen
Go with God!
