Focus
As you quiet yourself for this brief time, be willing to be open to God in whatever way that may take place.

To the leader: according to The Gittith. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
2 My soul longs, indeed it faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy
to the living God.
3 Even the sparrow finds a home
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
4 Happy are those who live in your house,
ever singing your praise. Selah
5 Happy are those whose strength is in you,
in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
6 As they go through the valley of Baca,
they make it a place of springs;
the early rain also covers it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength;
the God of gods will be seen in Zion.
Reflect
When I graduated from college many years ago, I returned to my home town and resumed going to the church I had been a member of for many years. After several months I left this church because I had begun to question the theology of the denomination. I also left because I was yearning for a place to belong. I joined the choir which was a diverse group. I remember there were some people a little older than I chatting about getting together a team for a community volleyball fundraiser. I wanted to do that so I said “Oh that sounds fun! I like volleyball.” Crickets. Some glanced in my direction and resumed their conversation and their plans. A few weeks later the youth presented a program to the congregation and I was very impressed. This seemed like a group in which I could share my gifts. I approached the youth minister and offered to help out and serve within this ministry. I was told they would get back with me. They didn’t. I was yearning for a spiritual community and the opportunity to serve.
I eventually made my way to Scottsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church where I was immediately welcomed. I was given opportunities to participate in various ministries. I received invitations to fellowship with others in the congregation. I found a community in which to serve and worship.
Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young—a place near your altar. Look around you the next time you are at church. Is there someone on the sidelines longing to participate? Invite them along on the pilgrimage!
Pray
Living and Loving God, Thank you for loving me and accepting me. Lead me to show others your love and hospitality. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Go with God!
