Dear Friends in Mission,
We have an opportunity to go to Kentucky in the fall to help rebuild from the widespread tornado damage of which I am sure everyone knows. The primary work is finishing rebuilding the Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church manse, which was destroyed by the tornado. If we have enough volunteers and time, there are other homes nearby in need of work. The dates are: Sunday, Oct. 16 – Friday, Oct. 21, 2022. As always, we can use any willing hands, regardless of skills, including some folks to prepare meals.
We will be hosted by the Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which will provide space for cots, mattresses, etc., and the use of their kitchen and dining area. The work site is only about a half mile from the church, thus little commuting. It is too soon to project exactly what work we will be doing, but likely: drywall, drywall “mudding,” painting, siding, perhaps window installation, and general finish up/trim. The church address is: 2641 KY-175, Bremen, KY 32325.
Volunteers usually contribute $60 for food for the week, and, if one can, $100, or whatever amount is comfortable, for general expenses. However, we do have contributions to cover the costs for anyone who is willing to come but does not have the funds. Our typical week begins with an orientation meeting Sunday evening and work Monday through noon Friday. As we get closer to the date we will pass on more information, including what tools will be needed for the work we will be doing. Generally, we have plenty of folks with whatever tools are needed.
While this seems a long way off, we would appreciate hearing back from volunteers as early as possible in order to begin planning.
