4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
7 Look! He is coming with the clouds;
every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him;
and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.
So it is to be. Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
Reflect
Revelation tends to be a scary book to a lot of people. They see the weird imagery and they see the persecution of believers in the description of the great tribulation and it causes people to fear. However, the people John was writing to then and even many now are facing tribulation and persecution. To those under these conditions, you could see that the LORD returning is not really something to be feared, but rather to be rejoiced about.
Revelation is an apocalyptic book that is roughly translated means unveiling. So in this opening scene of Revelation, we get this Resurrection picture of Jesus being the first born of the Resurrection and this being the fulfillment of Daniel 7:13-14 picture of the Son of Man coming in the clouds. Jesus is our hope because He is the Son of Man. He is the Son of God and worthy of worship and praise. In this opening chapter it is made known that Jesus, the raised Son of God, is not only the Son of God, but He is God incarnate.
Pray
Let us pray. Dear Christ, help us to know You more deeply. We often say the words, but help us believe it down to our core that You are our LORD and our God.
Go with God!
