Love for One Another
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
Reflect
We talked about the Golden rule yesterday, but today we talk about another law–love one another. I once heard a preacher refer to the Platinum Rule. The Platinum Rule is, “Love one another, even as Jesus Christ loves you. So we must love one another. ” This takes the Golden Rule up a notch. Imagine loving your brother or sister enough to pick up a cross for them.
What actions do you take that show you are fulfilling the commandment to “Love your neighbor as yourself”
Pray
Loving God, the Old Testament is filled with many laws, so many in fact that we can not begin to follow all of them. Yet Jesus Christ came to show us that there is only one Great Commandment: to love your neighbor as yourself. Yet, we can’t even follow that one commandment. We are embarrassed by the ones we love the most. We steal another’s self-esteem by putting them down. We always want at least what everyone else has, even if we have no use for it. Forgive us. Guide us to those in the world that need our love–our loving kindness, our hands of friendship, our tender word. Make us always aware of where we can be of service to you. Amen.
