8 They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 He said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
Reflect
This passage is tragic and unfortunately, it occurs in everyone’s life. Sin and evil in the world can cause us to fear God and hide ourselves from God. It is not only God that we hide from though. Earlier in the chapter, we read that after Adam and Eve sinned, they hid themselves from one another by putting on fig leaves to hide their nakedness.
The message of the Gospel is that despite our sin, we can turn to God. God in Jesus Christ shows us grace, mercy, and love. In turn, when we become Christians, our hearts are warmed and we can offer ourselves in vulnerability to one another. We no longer have to hide from God or one another because Christ has redeemed us.
May you experience the grace of Jesus Christ today and rest from your hiding before God and others in your life. Offer yourself to God for He cares for you and will begin a great work in you!
Pray
Lord God, thank you for your love and redemption found in Jesus Christ. Amen
