In our Sunday School class, we start each Sunday with a thought-provoking question.  As part of this tradition, we pass a rock to the next person to designate that it is their turn to share. We’ve often commented that the rock gets warm and seems to carry the wisdom…or sadness…or humor of all the people who have shared previously. 

In 1 Kings, God gives Solomon great wisdom.  Greatness is compared to the power of the natural world –  “breadth of understanding as numerous as the sand on the seashore.”  Just like that rock in Sunday School, I find that I can hear the wisdom of God as I listen to the waves at the seashore, the whisper of the wind through the woods or even the glint of sunlight off a pond.  The wisdom of God shines through the beautiful objects of his creation if we chose to listen. 

In passing that rock, the same questions have been asked several times.  Where do you feel the voice of God most clearly?  I know I’ve answered the same each time.  I feel the presence of God in his natural kingdom when I choose to slow down and remember who created all of the majesty surrounding me.
