Stop and thank God for being present with you today. Ask for God’s guidance as you hear God’s voice through scripture and the writer.

30 The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. 34 As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
Reflect
Are you tired? Do you feel like you have not even had time to enjoy a meal with your friends and family? Have you ever been so caught up in life that you have forgotten what it was like to have some leisure? In this passage of scripture, Jesus knows that his friends are exhausted. They have been working hard to teach all they could to as many people as possible and have forgotten to find time to rest. God does not ask us to run ourselves into the ground, God recognizes when we need some leisure and calls us to rest. If you are like me, then life never quite seems to slow down and if it does, I feel guilty for taking advantage! Today, allow yourself to find some leisure. Enjoy a meal, rest your eyes for a bit, breathe in some fresh air, and find something that allows your mind and spirit to find comfort. Know that Jesus recognizes when we have had enough and offers a boat for us to climb into when we are weary.
Pray
God, clear my mind of all I have to do tomorrow and allow my body, mind, and spirit to rest for a moment. So that I will be ready for the people on the shore who await the work I have tomorrow. Amen
Go with God!
