Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.
Read
1 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty firmament!
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his surpassing greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with clanging cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
Reflect
Sometimes it seems odd to find a spirit of praise within ourselves, doesn’t it? As we watch the news or scroll through our social media, we see videos, stories, or articles that depict individuals being wrongfully killed by people who were called to protect and serve. Many of us wait in fear as the numbers of covid-19 cases fluctuate up and down, wondering if we will ever be able to fully understand what the “new normal” will look like tomorrow. We watch as the environment is destroyed by humanity’s continued abuse of its resources. Yet, in Psalm 150 we are called to praise the Lord with all we are! We are called to praise God’s mighty deeds and God’s greatness, but often it is difficult to see that greatness through the lens of our own world. Today, take a moment to recognize that with all that seems wrong in the world, we do not always see the whole picture. God is mightily active in our world righting wrongs, healing the sick, sharing comfort to the mourning, and leading us toward a spirit of praise! Take a moment today, despite all your reasons to resist a praise-filled heart, to allow yourself to get lost in praising God for all that God has done and is continuing to do in our broken world to make it whole.
Pray
Creator God,
I praise you for all that you are doing in the world,
Help me to find praise in my heart no matter how bleak the world around me may seem.
Go with God!
