Reflect
This is a great spot to continue with our thought from yesterday. I am a self-professed work-a-holic. Just ask my family they will tell you. I am reminded in our scripture reading today, that even our Lord, in his human form, needed to take some time to recharge.
Can you imagine the immense crowds he was faced with? All the voices clamoring for his attention. The pleading the begging the pushing to the front of the mass of people, wanting to make sure either you yourself, or your loved relative made it before the Teacher left for the day.
Jesus, after a long night, rose early and left. He went away by himself to pray. In our culture, we celebrate those who work themselves to the weariness of the world. We applaud those that climb the ladder of success, not recognizing the insane number of hours and the loss of self that comes with this ambition. I am not opposed to hard work, I am not opposed to searching out a better life. Jesus worked hard, but he also made sure he had time with God. He talked to the Father regularly. If Jesus, the son of God sought out God’s presence, how much more should we seek God in our lives daily. To keep ourselves focused on the path God has set before us, not the one we want, but the one he wants for us.
Pray
Gracious God, help us focus today on you and the path you have laid before us. Many of us have wearied ourselves with the work of the world. Help us find our rest in you. Relying on the goodness that you have in the plan for us. Relying on the direction you want us to take. In Jesus name, Amen.
Go with God!
