Some Cumberland Presbyterian Churches made the decision to cancel their Sunday Services after a bomb exploded in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

Around 6:30 on Christmas morning 2020, a bomb hidden inside a camper exploded on Second Avenue North close to Commerce Street in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The blast injured three people and damaged 41 businesses including the AT&T transmission building on Second Avenue North. Police released a picture of the vehicle taken by a security camera and said a person or persons parked the camper at the curb at 1:22 a.m. on Friday.

The damage to the AT&T building caused widespread service outages. The explosion disrupted cell phone service across Middle Tennessee, South Central Kentucky, and Northern Alabama. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee claimed the explosion hindered the communication of at least 20 911 call centers.

The Reverend Sherry Whitaker Ladd, pastor of both Swan Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Santa Fe Cumberland Presbyterian Church, both in Columbia Presbytery, announced both would be closed on Sunday, December 27, 2020. “Not only is there COVID but the bomb in Nashville has affected people’s ability to buy gas with a credit card plus they cannot get cash because the ATMs are down,” Ladd wrote in a Facebook post. “Everyone please take care of yourselves,” she urged.
