Read
61 The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and release to the prisoners;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a garland instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, to display his glory.
4 They shall build up the ancient ruins,
they shall raise up the former devastations;
they shall repair the ruined cities,
the devastations of many generations.
Reflect
Have you ever looked in the mirror and asked yourself what was your purpose? Maybe you asked why I am I here? Or maybe you have asked yourself a question similar to this.
In today’s passage of scripture, our question is answered in Isaiah 61. It is here that we are told that we are here for a purpose. However, we are not here for any kind of purpose. Our purpose here on earth is a special one.
Our purpose here on earth according to Isaiah 61:1, is to bring good news to the poor. To repair broken hearts, and to declare to those who are held captive and bound in prison, “be free from your imprisonment!”
Knowing these things as children of God should bring you extreme joy and happiness. The reason being is because this allows us as children of God to know we have an amazing purpose. Also, we should have joy because our purpose does not only benefit us but also those around us.
Remember everyone that enters this world enters with purpose. Jesus Christ entered the world to save us from our sinful ways. Adam and Eve entered the world to introduce humankind to the world. And you the reader entered the world to make a difference as well.
Pray
Dear God thank you for your word today and for reminding us that we have a purpose. Father God, we pray that you allow us to find our purpose within you, and live it out. We ask these things in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit Amen.
Go with God!
