43 But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
Reflect
So this year has been terrible in many ways. I won’t waste my time recounting all the awful. Yet, even in the awful times we have found new ways to be in communion with God and one another. My prayer is that God has revealed to you the many ways He has kept his promise of being faithful to you. We are in the season of Advent and we are preparing our hearts to celebrate the ultimate affirmation of God’s promises. Paul writes that all the promises of God are yes in Jesus Christ.
As we prepare our hearts and homes for the celebration of the first coming of Jesus Christ. It may well feel that you have passed through deep waters and walked through the flames, but Christ will come again. Let us rejoice in this scripture and remind ourselves that Christ is the good shepherd who has never lost one sheep and he hasn’t lost us, even in this terrible, no good year.
Pray
God, thank you for your love and faithfulness toward us. Help us to remember the great promises in Scripture that you have and are protecting us. Help is have a stronger faith that we are in Your loving hands. Amen
