Reflect

Paul says, “Be a model of good works.” What are our first works? Before we ever lift a hand to do something, before we speak a word to others, our first work is usually creating the inward the story of what is happening. We create the story within our head to guide us in our speech and action. To be a model of good by our works, our inward story must first have integrity, be grounded well in truth, and be removed from attachments that would cloud the clarity of our thoughts. Only then can we have our story that will move us rightly, able to tell others in confidence what we will do, and most importantly give our physical actions that follow nothing that can be pointed to as our shame. Instead, those who try will themselves be shamed. Too often we attempt to regain our pride after we’ve already spoken too soon. We can seldom regain our integrity no matter how much more we speak. So, back away from argument, know what is true and lastly speak in sound wisdom. Your actions will also follow with integrity.

Pray

Granter of wisdom, we ask for patience in our lives. Give us a pace that our minds can follow, that we may first be the person we want others to hear and see. We ask that mercy and forbearance towards others rule within us, that we may be worthy of the same you gave to us through your gift, Jesus Christ. Amen.
