Philippians 1:15-21
15 Some proclaim Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from goodwill. 16 These proclaim Christ out of love, knowing that I have been put here for the defense of the gospel; 17 the others proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but intending to increase my suffering in my imprisonment. 18 What does it matter? Just this, that Christ is proclaimed in every way, whether out of false motives or true; and in that I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance. 20 It is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be put to shame in any way, but that by my speaking with all boldness, Christ will be exalted now as always in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain.
Reflect
In most areas where Cumberland Presbyterian churches are prevalent, you can pull out of the church parking lot and see at least 5 other churches as you drive down the street. I’m sure this sentence has come out of most of our mouths – “did you see what the ____ church is doing?”. Sometimes we say this with excitement and sometimes we say this with judgement.
Our scripture today has a so what vibe to it. So what if that church down the street has more on Sunday. So what if they have a bigger youth group. So what if they are doing things with the wrong intentions or goals. We are not responsible for them. We are responsible for us.
Today, think about your intentions as someone who serves and proclaims Christ. Are they genuine? At the end of the day, it’s between you and God. Let’s make God proud.
Pray
God, guide me as a search my heart today. I want everything I do to truly be honorable to You. May my words and actions today genuinely reflect you. Amen
Go with God!
