Revelation 3:7-13
7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:
These are the words of the holy one, the true one,
who has the key of David,
who opens and no one will shut,
who shuts and no one opens:
8 “I know your works. Look, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 9 I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but are lying—I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept my word of patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth. 11 I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. 12 If you conquer, I will make you a pillar in the temple of my God; you will never go out of it. I will write on you the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem that comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. 13 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.
Reflect
These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.
In the first movie of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, Bilbo Baggins says to Frodo: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” That is so true! On any given day, you could step out your door and your feet be swept away by a hurricane, pushed along by an angry mob, tripped up by a politician, or knocked down by a virus. But don’t be afraid to walk out your door. God knows who you are and where you are going. God will open and close the doors of your life – even when you aren’t aware God is opening them. Even when you don’t feel you have the strength, make the effort. Because God knows you. God knows that you have “kept the faith” and you haven’t denied the Rock of our salvation. God promises that He will “keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come….” Take heart. Believe God. And trust God when your faith is small.
Pray
Thank You, God for pushing me out the front door each day. I don’t know what each day holds, but I know that that Yu will hold the door for me. In Your name, Amen.
Go with God!
