2 Timothy 1:12b-14 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that day what I have entrusted to him. 13 Hold to the standard of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us.
Reflect
Believers who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ should never be ashamed to identify as a Christian. We understand that Christ is faithful to deliver what He has promised. In a way, it is like we have deposited our souls and lives in an eternal bank that is guaranteed by God. We can rest assured because Jesus has protected that deposit with His life.
Believers also have an understanding that our eternal life begins the moment we believe. Jesus explains eternal life in John 17:3, “And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” For us to know God and His Son, we are also given an eternal treasure that we need to guard with our lives. This eternal treasure is the Holy Scriptures. We are to study and teach the truth faithfully and with grace. The best part of this treasure is we have the help of the Holy Spirit living within us to help us hold the standard and interpret the truth.
These two eternal investments provide the ultimate security and peace.
