The Reverend Geoffry Barrett, 77, (Cumberland Presbytery) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, died Sunday, May 24, 2020. He was born October 8, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Julius and Etta Elizabeth Teter Barrett. He was educated at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, and Trinity College in Newburgh, Indiana.
Geoff came to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church from the Southern Baptist Church where he was an ordained minister. After the Reverend James Byrd retired from the Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Reverend Barrett followed him and sought to formalize his relationship with the denomination.
When Geoff came under the care of Cumberland Presbytery on March 15, 2003, he was already serving the Harrodsburg church. The presbyterial committee on the ministry required he enroll in the Program of Alternate Studies in order he might courses on Cumberland Presbyterian history, polity, and theology. At the fall meeting of Cumberland Presbytery in 2004, the committee reported the requirements had been fulfilled and recommended Geoff be ordained in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Ordination took place on September 12, 2004, at the Harrodsburgh church. The Reverend Eugene Leslie preached the ordination sermon, the Reverend Wayne Brooks asked the ordination questions, and the Reverend James Byrd delivered the charge. After his ordination, presbytery proceeded to install the Reverend Barrett as pastor.
Geoff served the Harrodsburgh Cumberland Presbyterian Church until he retired from Cumberland Presbyterian ministry in 2017. His wife, Sheila Ann Latte Barrett preceded him in death.
